The Evolution of Bankston x YSG Studio’s The Streaks Collection
Inside a Collaboration Redefining Architectural Hardware
The Local Project (TLP), the Australian-based publishing force that champions authentic architectural and interior design innovations around the globe, partnered with us to create a short video transporting viewers inside the headquarters of YSG Studio where The Streaks Collection was conceived.
Candid Conversations
Opening up new possibilities in the way architectural hardware both appears and performs, YSG Director Yasmine Ghoniem delves into the inspiration behind Bankston’s fourth collaborative collection of door levers, pulls and joinery accessories, introducing expressive forms and material pairings that the market has not seen before.
TLPs longstanding, supportive relationship with Bankston is evident in its interviews with Co-CEOs, Emily and Steve Bradley, who were closely involved in the creation of The Streaks, from concept to production. Filmed during their visit to YSGs studio on the eve of its Australian launch, they share the design evolution of the collection and their ethos of pushing the boundaries of what hardware can be across all their collaborations. In this instance, bold scale, pattern and colour take centre stage, with timber – not customary metal – being the hero, given the majority of the collection comprises hand-carved, naturally coloured bands of assorted species offered in distinctive tonal pairings. Given its highly original shapes and exaggerated dimensions, they delve into the challenges of working with timber and adapting new manufacturing techniques to support YSGs vision without compromise. Several pieces crafted in Patinated Bronze further enrich the collection, enabling visual punctuation across architectural settings both indoors and out.
International Coverage: Behind the Scenes
Crossing continents while supporting Bankston’s first exclusive launch amongst the European market, TLP also captured The Streaks’ international launch during Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign festival in June 2025, plus its Australian launch shortly after in Sydney. Attended by prominent interior design professionals and designers, plus editorial, the film crew transports viewers to both events, enabling them to experience the elongated proportions and chunky stature of several pieces, plus the highly interactive nature of the collection. You can almost feel the tactile warmth of the range, and delight in the inquisitive interaction with them given guests literally could not keep their hands off the pieces presented upon carpet-clad display units. One particular hit was the Kooky Streaker given its 45-degree tilt, lengthy form and atypical operation that feels like opening the door of a vault.
Playful Innovation
The Bankston team speaks of its commitment to originality and reinvention in the architecture hardware sector, where aesthetic experimentation meets technical rigour in equal measure. “The Streaks reaffirms how we choose collaborators,” says Steve Bradley in the video. “We look for studios we admire, but more importantly, studios that are going to challenge us to create something new and distinctive. That’s what we do as a brand, we shift perceptions and elevate hardware as a category in itself. Collaborating with YSG reminds us how powerful that approach can be.” By choosing collaborators who question norms and offer new perspectives, it is guaranteed that the highly anticipated launch of Bankston’s fifth collection with a yet-to-be named design studio will push the boundaries of architectural hardware design and function in more extraordinary ways.
