We Ponder Home

The We Ponder home project took shape on the outskirts of Hobart, in a serene small town called Sorell surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.

Owner and designer, Rose from We Ponder worked in collaboration with two architecture firms – Align Architecture & Saxon Hall Architecture to design the home. They opted for a rectangular layout that gracefully incorporated unique design elements, including a sunken lounge and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, raw sawn Tasmanian Oak cladding to the exterior seamlessly merging functionality with panoramic views. The home’s symbiotic relationship with nature is a standout feature, where the home was lucky enough to be positioned facing north which allows the light to flood the interiors year-round, soaking the polished concrete floors with warmth. The design encapsulates the Mid-Century Modern ethos, blending comfort and aesthetics on a modest budget.

Design Themes and Inspiration

Inspired by the timeless charm of Mid-Century Modern design, Rose sought to infuse the space with personality using natural colours and materials. The Ben Rose House from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off served as a notable source of inspiration, guiding the endeavour to create a spacious, functional home with floor-to-ceiling windows that embrace the stunning Tasmanian surroundings. The desire to celebrate the local landscape played a pivotal role, influencing choice of materials, colours, and spatial arrangements.

Super Collection Hardware Feature

Super Collection by Bankston + Sans-Arc Studio features throughout the home. The Associati pull in Brushed Champagne is a subtle, yet striking addition to the front entry of the home. Celebrating the joy in the unexpected, and encouraging daring exploration in shape, the Futurismo lever adorns the interiors, positioned thoughtfully on the swinging doors throughout.

To honour its distinct style, a custom crafted front door was designed, highlighting a Tasmanian Oak frame that integrates mottled and reed decorative glass. The combined elements of natural material and the brushed satin texture of the Associati pull resulted in this captivating front entrance. The Super Collection range aligned perfectly with the design vision of the We Ponder home. The range also influenced cabinetry hardware choices throughout, where Rose decided to play on the unique sphere shapes of the hardware by using walnut timber bowls in the kitchen and hallway, along with travertine spheres in the study and laundry. This created a unified design motif that ran consistently throughout the entire home.
