Light Band
Pairing gentle cream bands of American White Ash with golden honey bands of Australian Blackbutt, this neutral timber combination makes for refined entry statements to every room and enlivens joinery surfaces with dynamic expression. The striped motif draws upon YSG’s experimentations with mis-matched timber species to create jigsaw-like attachments upon joinery surfaces across their projects. Appealing to the eye, the banded combination enhances connections.
Care Instructions
-
Over time, The Streaks timber requires re-application of oil to maintain their original finish. Bankston recommends a clear matt finish oil, which is available from most hardware stores. Apply the oil as per manufacturers’ instructions, dabbing gently and wiping dry with a clean cloth. Only apply oil when needed.
Unwanted imperfections or spills can be touched up by gently rubbing back with a household scouring pad, followed by cleaning with warm water and a natural soap. Let the timber dry and apply a clear matt finish oil to finish.

The Light Band is made from an Australian hardwood species called Blackbutt. Blackbutt is a natural material, which can occasionally feature unique character lines in the grain called a gum vein. A gum vein refers to a natural streak or pattern of gum that can be seen within the wood grain, appearing as a visible line or vein, often varying in colour from light to dark.
Each piece in The Streaks collection is unique, with varying grain and distinctive colouring, with each imperfection adding to the visual character, all the while, a connection to the collection’s name. The Streaks collection highlights the incredible depth and natural richness of timber. Each species, with its own striking hue and grain, has been carefully considered to create something truly unique.
Each piece is a testament to artisanal Australian-made craftmanship and will intensify in tone thanks to natural oils working their magic. Hand-finished with a hard wax oil applied with a dry cloth, the surfaces display a low lustre matte finish. The timber used in the Light Band finish is FSC-certified, ensuring responsible forestry management.
Timber Species

Comprising a pale cream tone, American White Ash provides a striking contrast to darker timbers. Its grain pattern is typically straight and can occasionally exhibit subtle waves. Due to its strong composure, its hardiness ensures resilience, while its mild elasticity grants shock resistance, making this hardwood a staple timber to craft interior furniture and architectural applications. Over time, the timber may darken slightly.

Ranging from a pale brown to golden honey, sometimes with subtle pinkish hues, Australian Blackbutt is a premium hardwood that typically possesses a straight grain, however, can occasionally exhibit an interlocked grain pattern. This distinctive timber can reveal signature darker gum veins, a natural feature of the timber, adding character and unique focal points. Given its strength and durability, this species is used for furniture and architectural applications. Over time, the timber’s tones can deepen. Australian Blackbutt is highly valued for fast maturity and regenerative properties.
