Bankston x Design Nature Agency: A Night of Jazz

A studio built for sound became a setting for music, material and the creative community behind both.

On a winter evening in Redfern, Bankston joined Design Nature Agency (DNA) for A Night of Jazz. At a time when design is increasingly encountered through screens, the gathering offered a reprieve and a chance to engage with it firsthand. Led by Olivia Sholler, DNA represents Bankston alongside a roster of contemporary artists and designers, each selected for a shared instinct toward material honesty and design integrity. Rather than centring around a launch, the occasion brought together practitioners across creative disciplines, with a shared appreciation for design and music providing the common ground.

Spatial Restraint

The event was hosted within Electric Sheep Music, a Redfern audio post production studio designed by Olivia Bossy with her signature soft modernist sensibility. The interior is intentionally unpretentious: creamy white walls, high level windows and acoustic panels suspended overhead. A sunken lounge and sculptural orb sconces lent warmth and intimacy, while the architecture remains understated, providing a backdrop for guests and the performance at its centre.

Sydney based double bassist and composer Max Alduca led a jazz trio, with conversation and instrumentation trading turns. The sensory landscape was completed with food by Plated by Roberta, natural wine from DRNKS and sparkling yerba maté from Matéo.

Design in Hand

Bankston fitted the studio’s doors with hardware from its Casts collection, a collaboration with architecture practice Edition Office. Lever 01 sat naturally within the interior, the aluminium extending Bossy’s material language. Between sets, a small selection from Bankston was placed within reach, allowing guests to understand its weight and material character in hand.  Rather than asking the hardware to take centre stage, the night gave it a place within a broader creative exchange.
