Studio Gram Office

Located within the former Bowden Motor Repairs in Brompton, South Australia, Studio Gram has embraced the space’s industrial heritage. Experimentation, collective growth and cultural contribution thrive within its brick walls.

Expanding upon the Adelaide-based architectural and interior design practice’s decade-long commitment to creating spaces that meld playful enquiry with functional endurance, their ambitious new workplace fosters cross-pollination between design, art and education.

Embracing New Connections

The slick 265-square-metre headquarters provides an adaptable framework for connection to the wider creative community. In addition to its day-to-day practice, it hosts artist and student-in-residence programs, and morphs into an event venue for talks, exhibitions and design industry gatherings. Its robust materiality including original brick, a patchwork of Besser Blocks and outpouring of slate crazy paving, personifies practice partners Dave Bickmore and Graham Charbonneau’s experimental stewardship of the practice. Layered with orthogonal geometries including timber floors and wall panelling, coloured tile walls, plus the shimmer of aluminium and stainless steel surfaces, large painted canvases add tonal triggers.

Metallic Cool

Open-channel doorways flood into the large ground-floor workspace, inviting casual interactions and pathways to dedicated meeting rooms. Given their alchemy of toughness and finesse, the Aluminium Lever 01’s from the Casts by Edition Office collection add refined touchpoints upon doors with a subtle hint of theatricality given the exaggeration of their cylindrical handle lengths. Continuing this design narrative, the elongated vertical form of the Pull 02 which spans 1.2m in length, accentuates the loftiness of the open mezzanine level above.
