Bankston x Petra Hardware: Dinner at Musso & Frank Grill

An evening with Petra Hardware and Bankston at one of Hollywood's most enduring institutions, bringing together architects and designers from across Los Angeles.

On 7 October 2026, Bankston and Petra Hardware welcomed members of LA’s architecture and design community to Musso & Frank Grill for an intimate dinner co-hosted by Bankston and Monica Khemsurov, founder of Petra.

A Hollywood fixture since 1919, Musso & Frank has spent more than a century serving the city’s creative circles. Its red leather banquettes, dark timber interiors and particular place in Hollywood history made for a fitting setting. Guests gathered for four courses, with hardware from both brands on display throughout the evening.

Petra Hardware

Founded in 2024 by Monica Khemsurov, co-founder of the design publication Sight Unseen, Petra Hardware brings an editorial eye to architectural hardware.

From its SoHo showroom in New York, Petra represents an eclectic selection of independent designers and makers, with a particular interest in hardware that occupies the space between functional object and sculpture. Bankston’s collaborators sit among a roster of around 50 designers and makers. Petra also offers access to Bankston’s full collection for projects across the US.

The evening also introduced Petra Fundamentals to Los Angeles, the showroom’s first in-house collection. Drawing on modernist sculpture and ancient object forms, the collection reinterprets familiar hardware typologies through a series of solid brass knobs, pulls and hooks, each with its own character.

Bankston’s Collections on Show

Bankston presented a selection of hardware from its four collaborations with leading creative practices. Sans-Arc’s Super Collection explores playful forms and material expression, while Edition Office’s Casts draws on the sculptural possibilities of cast metal. Civilian’s Hemispheres sets a central dome motif in brass and Portoro Gold marble. The most recent collection, The Streaks by YSG Studio, brings expressive timber forms and unexpected colour to the familiar language of door hardware.

Each collection reflects a different creative perspective, demonstrating the breadth of approaches that can emerge when hardware becomes a subject of design in its own right. For the evening, Petra arranged the pieces among silk and flowers, bringing the objects into the setting of the dinner.

Around the Table

The evening brought together a cross-section of Los Angeles’ architecture and design community, including designers from Romanek Design Studio, Charlap Hyman & Herrero, Bestor Architecture, Jamie Bush + Co, Electric Bowery, Another Human, Studio Keeta and Ome Dezin.

Working across residential, hospitality and cultural spaces, the studios brought a range of approaches to architecture and interiors. Conversation moved between projects taking shape across the city and the details that make a space distinctive.

A Shared Sensibility

For Bankston, Los Angeles feels like a natural extension of its Australian roots. Both design communities share an openness to experimentation, an independent creative culture and an interest in the relationship between architecture, art and objects.

Since introducing Hemispheres with Civilian in New York in 2024, Bankston has continued to build relationships with American architects and designers. The dinner with Petra was a chance to deepen those connections in a city whose creative sensibility has much in common with Bankston’s own.
